This was revealed by Prof (Dr) A S Bhatia, Principal of GMC Rajouri. He shared this during a media interaction at Kheora, accompanied by Medical Superintendent Dr Shamim, CAO Ashraf Haqla, and senior faculty members.
Highlighting the achievements of GMC Rajouri since 2022, Dr Bhatia noted the establishment of a blood component lab as a major milestone. Earlier, patients with dengue or requiring platelets had to travel to GMC Jammu. After extensive preparations and inspections by Central agencies, the lab now produces various blood components locally.
Additionally, advanced surgical and diagnostic services were introduced, including digital radiography, fibro scan for liver diseases, and echocardiography for heart patients. A dedicated ward and department for chest and tuberculosis cases were established, along with a drug de-addiction center with indoor admission facilities to combat rising drug addiction.
The College also began advanced laparoscopic surgeries, including knee and hip replacements and spinal fracture screw fixations. To address common bear mauling injuries in the Peer Panjal region, GMC Rajouri now offers face reconstructive surgery.
A new BSc nursing college was started, training 60 students annually, alongside BSc paramedical courses to strengthen healthcare education in the region.
Dr Shamim highlighted that GMC Rajouri currently caters to around 700 patients daily and strives to ensure patient comfort. The upcoming 180 bedded block will significantly ease space challenges, enhancing the Hospital’s capacity to provide quality care.
