JAMMU, Jan 10: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat today said that in view of the massive rush and referral cases from various hospitals of the region, Emergency unit of the Govt Medical College Hospital Jammu will have 200 more beds while 100 more beds at Maternity unit of SMGS Hospital are being provided.
Replying to calling Attention Notice of PDP member Surinder Choudhary, Bhagat said that he recently visited GMC and discussed the matter regarding provision of more beds in Emergency unit with officers. He said funds out of PM’s package have been sanctioned to create additional 100 beds capacity additional Emergency complex. Colonel Chopra Nursing Home will also be combined with the Emergency unit and with this 200 additional beds will be added to the Emergency.
He further said that Labour Room of SMGS and Maternity wards are over crowded with rush from various districts. It is fact that on one bed even two patients are accommodated. He claimed that additional 100 beds are being added to the Maternity unit of the SMGS and funds are being released for the same. It will ease some pressure from outside on this unit of SMGS. He said since long no efforts were made by any previous Govt to increase the capacity of this hospital of Maharajas time. But it is need of the hour to increase the beds.
Bhagat claimed that all the necessary accidental and emergency services are available round the clock at GMC Hospital, Jammu.
“All the basic facilities which are required by the accidental patients, medical emergencies, and border firing casualties are available in the Emergency wards of GMCH Jammu, including management of patients in Emergency ward, surgical Emergency ward,” he said.
Besides, all the emergency operating procedures like surgical, Ortho of critical patients in Room No. 04 as well as in Emergency ICU with ventilator support in addition to the facilities of lab, Ultrasound, X-ray, CT scan are available round the clock, he noted.
He said that all the basic facilities are also available in the labour room ward and most of the drugs required for the patients are available under JSSY scheme.
Surinder Kumar Choudhary also raised a supplementary question and complained about the non-availability of beds in the labour room of SMGS hospital Jammu.
Responding to the query, the Minister said that the matter has already been taken into consideration and officers are asked to prepare a DPR for the same including construction of hundred bedded building under PMDP scheme.
The Minister further informed that the G B Pant Hospital authorities have been also asked to prepare a DPR for the construction of additional 100 bedded building.
