GMC Srinagar constitutes IRB for 2023-24

Srinagar, Apr 6: The Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar has ordered the Constitution of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the year 2023 under the Chairmanship of Prof (Dr.) Arshid Hussain.
The 16-member IRB, apart from expert doctors, will also have an advocate and a civil society individual as its members while Dr Muzaffar Maqbool has been designated as Member Secretary.
As per the order which has been issued by the Principal GMC, Srinagar, the IRB will have Prof. ( Dr. ) Sabia Rashid Member, Prof. ( Dr. ) Anjum Farhana Member, Prof. ( Dr.) Rukhsana Najeeb, Prof. ( Dr.) Majid Jahangir, Prof. ( Dr. ) Sameena Farhat, Prof. ( Dr. ) S.M. Salim Khan, Prof. ( Dr. ) Mufti Mehmood, Prof. ( Dr.) Iqbal Saleem Mir, Member Yes 10 Prof. ( Dr. ) Altaf Ahmad Kawoosa, Prof. ( Dr. ) Manzoor Ahmad Latoo, Dr.) Rakesh Kumar Koul, Dr Shugufta Parveen, Syed Mosaib, Advocate J&K High Court and Farooq Ahmad, Volunteer Help  Poor Voluntary Trust NGO as members.
The IRB’s objectives are to evaluate and approve proposals for clinical, basic, or translational research projects for their scientific and ethical content, to raise the bar for ethical behaviour, and to provide guidance on moral conundrums involving patient care.
In addition to issuing and periodically updating and revising SOPs and guidelines for the efficient functioning of IRB as and when required, it serves as a forum to advise the administration in case of any ethical issues that may arise from patients, families, or the general public.
