GMC Srinagar not relieving PGs despite tenure completion

SRINAGAR, June 2: Post Graduate doctors at Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar are facing a mess as authorities at the Medical College have failed to relieve them from their duties, despite the completion of their tenure.
This issue emerged just as the University of Kashmir released the date sheet for the upcoming PG examinations.
The concern revolves around the 2020 batch of PGs, who commenced their training on June 1, 2020 while, as per regulations, their mandated three-year training period ended on June 1, 2023.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has already, in this regard, directed that the postgraduate exams must be conducted and finalized within this timeframe.
Accordingly, the PGs are supposed to be relieved from their duties at the end of their tenure. However, the current situation at the GMC, Srinagar is in complete contrast to these guidelines.
Instead of issuing relieving orders to the PGs, who are scheduled to sit for their exams next month, the Principal of GMC, Srinagar has failed to take action.
This failure to release them from their duties has impeded their ability to adequately prepare for the upcoming exams. Adding to the frustration, a new duty roster has been posted, mandating that the PGs continue with their current duties.
Initially, there was a delay in the notification of the date sheet by the University of Kashmir. Although this issue was subsequently resolved, the GMC authorities have now presented another obstacle by disregarding NMC norms and withholding the relieving orders.
