*Asiea emphasizes strengthening of Pathology Deptt

JAMMU, Apr 22: The annual conference of North West Chapter of Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (IAPM) titled ‘Pathocon 2017’ was organized today by Department of Pathology, Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
The conference was inaugurated by Minister of State for Health and Medical Education, Asiea Naqash, who was the chief guest on the occasion. The event was attended by around 500 delegates from all over India, faculty members and large number of students of GMC Jammu.
This year’s conference was focused on ‘Recent Advance in field of Histopathology, Hematology, Cytology and Clinical Pathology’.
While speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Pathology Departments in State institutions need to be upgraded to provide best diagnostics facilities to patients. Stating that pathology is backbone of any medical institution, she reiterated Government’s commitment for providing all necessary help to upgrade and strengthen this department.
Appreciating efforts of the department in organizing this conference, which provides opportunities for deliberations and has participation from eminent experts from varied fields, the Minister said that these scientific deliberations will not only help in better patient care but will also be fruitful to youngsters especially Post-Graduate training students.
She added that this academic gathering will provide doctors an opportunity to interact freely with experts and get updated information about the fast changing field of medicine where definitions and classifications are regularly modified, subject to latest advancements.
Earlier, Dr RK Vasishta, president of IAPM, in his presidential address spoke on the role of IAPM to network and disseminate recent advances in Pathology. Dr Jyotsna Suri, organizing secretary, presented the welcome address.
Principal and Dean, GMCH Jammu, Prof Sunanda Raina, president, IAPM, Dr TK Vasishta, organizing chairperson and HoD, Department of Pathology, GMCH Jammu, KK Kaul, Director Principal ASCOMS, Dr Pawan Malhotra, Medical Superintendents of various hospitals and various other officials of Health Department were also present.
