JAMMU, Mar 13: Jammu and Kashmir Guru Nanak Foundation (GNF) urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide reservation to the Sikh community in the State Legislature.
Addressing a press conference, Ranjeet Singh, president, Jammu and Kashmir Guru Nanak Foundation said that the Sikh community of Jammu and Kashmir has been ignored by the Governments from 1977.
“We don’t have any Sikh representative in the State Legislature and in the State Cabinet due to which the plights of the Sikh community remain unattended”, he added.
Ranjeet Singh urged Prime Minister to take this issue seriously for the reservation to the Sikh community in the State Legislature vis-à-vis two reserved seats each from Jammu and Kashmir provinces for the community.
He added that the release of Masrat Alam was the matter of judiciary but the statement of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed gave birth to the new controversy and confusion, which can create law and order problem in the State.
Among others present were Mangat Singh, president, Sikh Minority Board and Jang Bahadur Singh Wazir, general secretary, Minority Congress.
