JAMMU, Dec 7: General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (Army Commander) Northern Command Lieutenant General DS Hooda today called upon all the ranks of the Army Service Corps (ASC) to work selflessly and to rededicate themselves to uphold the ethos and spirit enshrined in the ASC motto.
On the occasion of ASC’s 254th Corps Day, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief complimented all ranks of the Corps for their dedication, high degree of professionalism and flexibility in performing their duties in difficult and inhospitable terrain conditions in the Northern theatre.
While the history of supply and transport services is as old as the history of organised warfare itself, it was in the year 1760 that the very rudimentary Supply and Transport organisations of the three Presidencies of the East India Company were brought under the council of a single authority.
On December 8, 1950, the word ‘Royal’ was dropped and ever since the Corps celebrates it’s raising on this day.
The Army Service Corps which is mainly responsible for the provisioning, procurement and distribution of supplies, petroleum products, hygiene chemicals and items of hospital comforts to the Army and the Air Force and to the Navy and other paramilitary forces as and when required.
The spirit of ASC is reflected in their motto of “Seva Asmakam Dharam” or “Service is our Creed” and the corps has a record of outstanding contribution in all operations and has proved its mettle both in war and peace.
