GOC’s sister mysteriously dies, police suspects suicide

RAJOURI, Apr 6: The elder sister of General Officer Commanding (GOC) Romeo Force, Rajouri, died under mysterious circumstances at her brother’s official residence at Palma headquarters of the Force, late last evening.
Police sources said that on receiving information at around 7 pm on Sunday, the SHO Rajouri Yash Pal Jamwal moved to the spot along with some policemen.
Sources further said that 56-year-old Shampa Bhattacharya,  had come to meet her brother Maj Gen A K Sanyal in Rajouri. She was staying here for the last 12 days. She had earlier gone to New York (USA) and stayed with her son there for several months and returned hardly 3 months back from there to her Delhi residence. Her daughter is also in USA. She has been divorced and was living all alone in Delhi.
SSP Rajouri, Dr Haseeb Mughal, when contacted said that a Medical Board comprising of four doctors was constituted to conduct the postmortem of the body. After postmortem the body was handed over to the legal heirs. Since, it was mysterious death case, the investigations under Section 174 CrPC have been initiated by Rajouri Police. But as per preliminary medical examination by the medicos, it is apparently a case of hanging.
Dr Mughal said that today he along with his team also visited the spot and the room where she stayed. Some anti-depression medicines were also recovered from the room. The police is working on all the angles. The attendants at the GOC’s residence were also called and their statements were taken. The dead body was today shifted to Delhi and further investigation was in progress.
