JAMMU, Dec 10: Aahvaan, the Ninth Annual Day function of GD Goenka Public School, Jammu concluded amidst a pompous display of theatrical extravaganza at the sprawling Goenkan acres, here today.
The chief guest for the evening was Brij Raj Sharma, Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir and his wife, Ruby Sharma. The event was also graced by Sukhnandan Choudhary, MLA and former Minister PHE.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp of knowledge. The other dignitaries to grace the occasion were Dewan Chand Bansal, Chairman of the School Managing Committee, Rahul Bansal, President of Om Prakash Bansal Charitable Trust & School Management Committee, Sanya Bansal, Director and Principal of the school, Rajesh Rathore.
The programme started with a patriotic song “Hum karein rashtra aaradhan” by the school choir comprising talented singers and instrumentalists and they dedicated it to the soldiers of our country.
It was followed by Ganesh Vandana wherein the students sought the blessings of Lord Ganpati for their success. The Annual School Report was read out by the dynamic and inspiring Principal, who highlighted the achievements of the school for the academic session 2016. The Academic Achievers were felicitated by the chief guest who expressed his delight on the Schools’ accomplishments and extended his warm wishes for the institution. This year the Goenkan Laureate Award was won by Harshdev Singh of class XI for his all round performance in Academics, Sports, Extracurricular and Co Curricular Activities. He is also the young, budding and skilled student who designed the Goenkan website.
A glittering bonanza of dances and a medley of songs captivated the audience. The resounding applause from the bevy of spectators was a confirmed proof of children’s talent well appreciated by the audience. Beautifully choreographed dances depicting a child’s fantasy, his dreamland, won the hearts of all.
However, it was the play,”Aaj Ka Abhimanyu” which left the audience enormously spellbound with a gripping enactment from the Goenkans. The theme of the drama was with respect to the present fiercely competitive world where we often forget that at the end of the day, our Abhimanyus, our young adults, are merely children and not machines sans emotions and feelings.
A comparison was drawn with the iconic and legendary Mahabharata war hero, the sixteen year old young Abhimanyu, who single handedly, fought all war stalwarts to break the enemy chakravyuh. Even though he emerged victorious, he attained martyrdom on the battlefield.
The students worked extensively, religiously and rigorously with a team of professionals, who honed the acting prowess of the students.
A memento was presented to the chief guest and his wife as a token of love. The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
