‘Tourism can’t defeat terrorism’

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, June 15: Panun Kashmir (PK) an organisation of displaced Pandits from Valley today urged the Government of India led by Narendra Modi, to understand that the lives of the Hindus living in Jammu & Kashmir and those of the tourists visiting the Union Territory (UT) are in grave danger.
This was stated by PK chairman, Dr Ajay Chrungoo while addressing a press conference here along with its senior functionaries including Daya Krishan, P L Koul Budgami, Raj Nath Raina and Pran Nath Koul. Dr Chrungoo said that in the light of this impending danger, it is necessary that Hindu employees living in Kashmir are shifted to safer places in Jammu and a travel advisory is issued to the citizens of India not to travel to Kashmir and all such vulnerable areas in Jammu, where the terror operatives are striking at will.
He said that the terror attacks in Reasi and subsequently in Kathua and Doda in Jammu are not acts of desperation of terrorists as the Government of India wants us to believe, but demonstrate a widening ambit and pervasive reach of terrorism in J&K.

Dr Chrungoo said that the GoI has persistently tried to minimise and grossly understate the terror threat by juggling with statistics. “By falsely categorizing terrorists into active terrorists, associate terrorists, over-ground terrorists, local terrorists and foreign terrorists, the Government is misinforming and confusing its own administration as well as the people of India”. Such an approach can only be termed as delusional and subversive, he added.
The PK leader said the PM package employees serving in Kashmir were forced to return to Kashmir on the threat of destitution. They have been consistently advised to remain indoors and even move to Jammu while their presence in Kashmir is being tom-tommed as an indicator of the return of normalcy.
He said PK states with responsibility that terrorism is not a result only of Pakistan and Islamists operating outside India, but is flourishing by way of local support .
He called upon the GoI to immediately recognize that a terrorist violence in J&K is driven by Islamist ideology and is Jihadic in its spirit and content, Jihad by Pakistan and its supported militias and home grown terror organizations have carried out ethnic cleansing and Hindu genocide in Jammu and Kashmir and genocide is the worst crime against humanity and that the Indian State should leave no stone unturned to investigate and punish Hindu genocide in Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged the Government to respect and fulfil all its commitments to international laws and practices and to the UN conventions, in leaving no stone unturned to rehabilitate the genocide victims i.e the Kashmiri Hindus in their homeland and ensure their return with guarantees of non-refoulement.
PK, while reiterating its demands stressed on implementation of 1991 and the passage of Panun Kashmir’s Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Bill -2020.
“We implore that the Government of India should get into action mode, discuss and implement all measures, which shall permanently defeat Jihadic terror and pave the way for return and rehabilitation of the Hindus in Kashmir.
