Gojri is largest spoken tribal language of North India: Writers

JAMMU, Nov 24: Stating that Gojri is the largest spoken tribal language of Northern India, speakers in a programme organised by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation (TRCF) today said that the language needs more attention from the Government.
“The influence of Gojri as a cultural language in Indian Subcontinent is increasing day by day mainly due to growing ethnic consciousness among Gujjars, Bakerwals and other communities, who speak this language since centuries”, they said.
In his address, Dr Javaid Rahi, Secretary TRCF, said that Gujjars are fighting vigorously for Gojri’s inclusion in 8th Schedule of India. He said that for inclusion of Gojri in India Constitution, Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Member Parliament Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz have written separate letters to Union Home Ministry with their recommendations in this regard.
The meeting adopted seven resolutions, which includes constitution of committee to pursue the matter related to inclusion of Gojri in the 8th Schedule of Constitution, opening of Gojri Research Centre in Jammu University, Gojri Department in Kashmir University, share on Doordrashan and Radio including daily programme and News bulletins from AIR and DD Jammu and Srinagar, introduction of Gojri up to 12th standard through State Board of School Education, recognition of Gojri by Sahahity Akademi New Delhi and declaring Gojri speaking people as Ethno-Linguistic Minority.
A committee of senior writers, poets and intellectual was also constituted on the occasion which will work jointly and to meet different dignitaries to address the issues with regard to development of Gojri language and culture.
The other members nominated are Iqbal Azeem, Naseem Poonchi, S H Tariq, Ch Khadam Qammar, Fazal Hussain Mushtaq, K D Chopra, H D Parwaz, Barkat Ali Baghri, Jan Mohammad Hakeem, Rafeeq Soz and Hameed Kassana
