Gojri literary and cultural meet concludes

JAMMU, Feb 27: Stressing to preserve the oldest treasure of Gojri language by documenting its folk and modern literature on priority, the participants on the concluding day of 2-day State level Gojri literary and cultural meet, called for speedy development of this third largest spoken language of the State.
Organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages the meet was held here at K L Saigal Hall in which 200 writers, poets, intellectuals, critics and artists from all over the State participated.
Dr Javaid Rahi, Chief Editor of State Academy said that the outcome of the meet was quite encouraging. He said suggestions received from our writers regarding promotion of Gojri language will be forwarded to relevant quarters immediately after conclusion of programme, for implementation.
He impressed upon the Gojri writers, poets and intellectuals to play a strong role in reformation Tribal society of Gujjar.
The paper-reading session was presided over by Dr Ayaz Rasool Nazki, Regional Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations while prominent writer Dr Sabir Mirza, Secretary Academy Khalid Bashir and Chief Editor Dr. Javaid Rahi were in the presidium.
Those who presented their paper include Choudhary Karam Din Chopra, Choudhary Fazal Mushtaq and Choudhary Naseem Poonchi.
The Paper Session was followed by Short Story reading session which was presided over by versatile Punjabi writer Khalid Hussain while Ch Aqbal Azeem, Member of Academy’s Central Committee and Manshah Khaki,  Editor Gojri were in the presidium while Dr Shah Nawaz conducted the programme. Those who read stories included Prof MK Waqar, Hameed Kassana, Parvaiz Choudhary, Adress Shad and Rashid Shabnum.
The musical programme presented by Parvaiz Malik, Yousif Arman and Tasleema Jaan, was the main attraction of the event. The event concluded with Gojri Mushaira presided over by veteran Dogri writer Dr Lalit Magotra while Naseem Poonchi was in the presidium.
The poets who recited their Kalam include Naseem Poonchi, Khakan Sajjad, Bashir Lohar and many others.
