Gope Ashtami celebrated with fervour, zeal

JAMMU, Nov 21: Jammu and Kashmir Gao Raksha Samiti celebrated Gopa Ashtami according to Hindu traditional way at its premises here today.
Huge portraits of Gopal Krishan along with sacred Gao Mata were placed on the stage. Devotees in large number attended the function, paid obeisance and invoked blessings of Bhagwan Gopal Krishan.
Surinder Kumar Shastri highlighted the significance of the day that on this day Bhagwan Krishan sought the permission of his mother to go to jungle for grazing cows. Thus day falls on eighth day of Kartik, the Bikrami Samvat. He said the cow is also called Gao Mata because like a human being she also nourishes the child in its womb for nine months, her milk is like nectar to human beings. He urged the Government to put ban on cow slaughtering. He also informed that Gujarat Government has initiated steps in this direction. He also advised the devotees not to go without taking Prasad.
MLA Jammu East, Ashok Khajuria was the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr M Chander Shekhar of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sanshtan and Dr Jaguran Dass Shastri were the special invitees.
The function concluded with Gau Pujan.
The Gopal Ashtami was also celebrated with full religious fervour and gaiety at Swami Kumar Ji Geeta Satsang Ashram Muthi today.
On this auspicious day the bhajan Kirtan was held. Swami Ji and his disciples on this occasion performed a special pooja of cow.
Highlighting the significance of the day Swami Ji said on this particular day Lord Krishna had started grazing of cows (Gow Mata). He said 33 crore of devtas (gods) are present in the body of “Gow Mata” (Cow).
On the occasion a hawan was also performed which started at 8 am and culminated at 3 pm with Puranhauti and prasad vitran.
The Ashram is also celebrating 5124th Geeta Jayanti on November 23 and Swami Ji has made an appeal to people to participate in the celebrations.
