SRINAGAR, Sept 29: Highlighting the importance of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) in easing human sufferings and saving precious lives in varied emergency situations, Governor N.N. Vohra, President of the Indian Red Cross Society, J&K, called for enlarging the role of this organization and making it stronger and vibrant.
The Governor advised the Deputy Commissioners and the Regional Societies to organize frequent resource mobilization events across the State and organize well planned campaign to spread the aims and objectives of Red Cross in collaboration with other concerned organizations particularly the Health, Education and Social Welfare Departments, Police and Army and enlist a much larger number of volunteers, both men and women, to advance the Red Cross objectives.
The Governor was chairing the 172nd meeting of State Managing Committee (SMC) of the Indian Red Cross Society, J&K State Branch, held here at the Raj Bhavan.
The Governor stressed the need for strengthening the corpus of trained Red Cross volunteers across the State and enable them to discharge their duties with missionary zeal. He urged the Honorary General Secretary to devise a well-knit annual schedule of Red Cross activities at different levels for training volunteers and raising funds. He also stressed the need to involve the youth on a larger scale.
The SMC took stock of the follow up action taken on the various decisions taken in the previous meetings. The President directed the General Secretary to vigorously pursue and have decisions finalized regarding the construction of Red Cross building at Srinagar, setting up of Jan Aushadhi Generic Drug Stores in all districts, increasing the number of ambulances and other infrastructure in consultation with the Regional Societies and support of the Divisional Commissioner.
Roma Wani, General Secretary, IRCS, made detailed presentation on the activities of the Society and the steps initiated to make the organization more result oriented.
