SRINAGAR, Aug 1 : N N Vohra, Governor, has greeted the people on Raksha Bandhan hoping that this auspicious occasion would usher a new era of sustained peace, amity, harmony, progress and prosperity in the State.
In his message of felicitations, the Governor said that Raksha Bandhan is a unique feature of India’s cultural ethos, symbolizing the special bonds between brothers and sisters. He said that this festival has a special significance for Jammu and Kashmir as the annual Shri Amarnathji yatra concludes on this day and devotees pay obeisance at the Holy Cave shrine on Shravan Purnima.
The Governor prayed for the well-being of the people of the State.
In a greetings message, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that Jammu and Kashmir has great tradition of observing festivals and holy days in unity and togetherness. He called for further strengthening this trait and said that amity and brotherhood adds colours to the celebration of festivals. He prayed for the peace and development of the State and the country.
National Conference President and Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah also greeted the people on the Raksha Bandhan and gave a call for renewed efforts to ensure the dignity of women to promote peace and harmony in society.
“This festival is a unique representation of the bonds of love and mutual trust which have existed for centuries between sisters and brothers of every community in our country,” the NC President said in his message issued by the party spokesman.
He hoped that this festival brings about amity and goodwill in our lives. He said this day does not only reinforce family bonds but also ensures the dignity and well being of women.
