Governor, CM review security situation, call for coordination, prompt response

SRINAGAR, Sept 18: A high level meeting was held at Raj Bhavan, Srinagar today by Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to review security situation in view of terror attack at Uri.
The Raj Bhavan spokesperson said that after the terror attack, the Governor and the Chief Minister held urgent consultations on the situation.
The meeting was attended by B R Sharma, Chief Secretary, K Rajendra Kumar, Director General of Police, B B Vyas, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Chief Ministerm, Dr S P Vaid, Special DG (Coordination & Law and Order), P K Tripathi, Principal Secretary to Governor, R K Goyal, Home Secretary, Baseer Ahmed Khan, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; Shri Zulfikar Hassan, IG (Ops), CRPF; SJM Gillani, IGP Kashmir; Vikash Chandra, IG, BSF Kashmir and the head of the Intelligence Bureau in J&K. Lt Gen S K Dua, GOC 15 Corps could not attend the meeting in view of the visit of the Defence Minister to Srinagar.
The Governor observed that in the background of Poonch and Uri terror attacks, it is of crucial importance to enhance surveillance on security of all vital civil and military establishments in J&K.
Vohra recalled his directions earlier this year, after Pathankot terror attack, for a Multi Agency Security Audit being carried out by all security forces and other concerned agencies to identify and fill up every existing gap for ensuring an effective and prompt counter terror response on all fronts.
During the discussions, officers of the Army, security forces and the State police reported the actions already taken and those underway for safeguarding important establishments and vital installations. The Governor and the Chief Minister stressed the need for cohesive action for enforcing a constant vigil on the frontiers, stepping up counter terrorism operations and effectively maintaining internal security.
Vohra and Mehbooba reiterated the need for very close coordination being maintained amongst all the departments and agencies for ensuring prompt responses to ensure safety and security of the civil population.
The meeting also discussed various important issues relating to the effective enforcement of the counter infiltration and counter terrorism grids along the IB and LoC in Jammu and Kashmir regions. Continued cohesive action by all security forces in close concert with the civil administration was stressed for securing early restoration of public order.
The Governor and the Chief Minister also appealed to the people of State to maintain sustained vigilance to avert any fresh attempt by inimical elements to disturb the security environment in the Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, Governor N N Vohra called up Lt Gen D S Hooda, Northern Army Commander and Lt Gen Satish Dua, GOC 15 Corps and conveyed his heartfelt sympathy on the loss of lives of brave soldiers. He saluted the martyrs and wished early recovery to those injured.
