Governor condoles demise of journalist Balraj Puri

SRINAGAR : Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today expressed grief over the demise of Padma Bhushan Balraj Puri, an eminent journalist, author and political analyst.
On receiving information about Puri’s passing away, the Governor spoke to his daughter and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family.
He prayed for the departed soul resting in eternal peace and the Almighty giving strength to his family to bear this irreparable loss.
In the condolence message, the Governor said Puri was one of the very few people who had a rare knowledge about every aspect of J&K’s history, from before 1947, and had dedicated his entire life to the cause of promoting peace, goodwill and communal harmony in the society. Recalling his very long association with Puri, the Governor particularly remembered the period when Puri authored the Regional Autonomy Report. Meanwhile, expressing deep shock and grief over the journalist’s death CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has termed the demise as an irreparable loss for the state.
Terming him a compassionate man of great conviction, Mr Tarigami said Mr Puri was internationally known for his work in literature, education, journalism, besides being a committed social and human rights activist. Referring to his various works, the CPI (M) leader said the books authored by Mr Puri have tremendously added to the credible and authentic intellectual assets of the state. Mr Tarigami remarked Puri’s life has been one of selfless service to the society. It has been a life dedicated to the cause of promoting peace, goodwill and communal harmony. It has been a life spent in building bridges between regions and communities.
While expressing solidarity with bereaved family, Mr Tarigami said Puri’s demise has created a void in the social circles which is very difficult to be filled.
