SRINAGAR, June 23 : To review the arrangements for the Shri Amarnathji Yatra commencing on 25th June, the Governor, N.N. Vohra, who is the Chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, undertook a day long tour to inspect the entire Yatra route.
The Governor, accompanied by Navin K. Choudhary, CEO, inspected the arrangements and held review meetings at the Nunwan Base Camp, Sheshnag Camp, Panjtarni Camp, Holy Cave Camp and also Baltal Base Camp. He also inspected the Control Gate at Chandanwari, Baltal – Domel route and the Control Gate at Domel.
K. Rajendra, Director General of Police and S.M. Sahai, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Division, participated in the review meetings held at Nunwan Base Camp, Panjtarni Camp and Baltal Base Camp and also accompanied Governor on the inspection of the Baltal – Domel track and the arrangements positioned at the Control Gate at Domel.
During the course of the detailed meetings at each camp, the Governor stressed on the Camp Directors and Additional Camp Directors their responsibility to maintain security, discipline, cleanliness and effective sanitation within the camp areas.
In these meetings the CEO, Navin K. Choudhary, brought up for discussion important issues relating to the handling of pilgrims at the two Control Gates at Chandanwari and Domel and the manner in which pilgrims who arrive without securing registration would be dealt with.
It was unanimously agreed that any person arriving without registration would have to wait for his turn and be allowed to cross the Control Gate only after he had secured registration. The Governor directed all officers to ensure that every pilgrim is treated with courtesy and provided the required guidance and assistance for completing Yatra without facing any harassment if he possessed a valid registration and the compulsory health check certificate.
The Sheshnag and Holy Cave Camps still have very large accumulation of frozen snow and this is posing a serious impediment in the pitching of Langars, tents, toilets and other facilities. In this context, the Governor directed Surinder Mohan Sharma, Camp Director Sheshnag and Ranjit Singh, Camp Director Holy Cave, and all other concerned officers to put in renewed efforts to remove the accumulated snow from all the vulnerable camp areas, particularly the tracks and the stairs to the Holy Shrine.
The Governor reiterated, at each camp review meeting, the high responsibility of the Camp Directors to maintain round the clock contact with the Shrine Board Control Room and ensure that any arising problem is resolved without any delay whatsoever.
