JAMMU, Mar 5: Governor N. N. Vohra, who is President of Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir, visited the ‘Red Cross Mela’ at Gulshan Ground here this afternoon.
Appreciating the activities carried out by the State Red Cross Society during the past months, the Governor said that the Organization is doing well both in terms of extending help during exigencies as well as mobilizing resources for its philanthropic activities. Governor emphasized the usefulness of Melas and similar events being organized at frequent intervals by the District and Regional Red Cross Societies to raise funds and contributions on a sustained basis.
The Governor also stressed the need for the objectives of the Red Cross being always kept in mind and for its trained volunteers to be always at hand in the event of any kind of emergency, disaster or calamity. He complimented the trained volunteers of the Society in always staying being the first to lend a helping hand to those in distress.
Earlier, the Governor visited the stalls put up at the Mela by a large number of Governmental agencies and private organizations. He showed interest in the products being displayed and interacted with the students, officers and others who were managing the stalls.
On the occasion, a cultural programme based on patriotic theme and folk dances from different regions of the J&K was presented. Governor appreciated the quality of the cultural programme and lauded recitation of a poem on “Girl Child” by Ashish Kumar Jha, Commandant 166 Bn CRPF. Governor presented this year’s Rolling Trophy for Inter-District Competition to district Rajouri for their being adjudged first in the programme.
Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner Jammu (Chairman Indian Red Cross Society-Jammu Region) presented the welcome address highlighting the activities of the Red Cross.
M.S. Rather, Honorary General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir; S.D. Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu; Ramawtar, IG BSF; A.V. Chauhan, IG CRPF; Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri were among those present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the Results of Red Cross Raffle Draw were announced.
