SRINAGAR, May 24: Governor, N. N. Vohra laid the foundation of the Science and Technology Block of the Kashmir University at its upcoming Zakura Campus here today.
Speaking after laying the foundation stone, the Governor called upon the faculty, students and all the stakeholders to work hard to make the University a centre of excellence. He observed that Kashmir University had a glorious past and if we work with dedication and commitment this varsity will have an even brighter future.
The Governor, who is Chancellor of the Kashmir University, discussed the Master Plan of the Zakura Campus of the University with Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, the architect and the concerned officers present on this occasion, and stressed the need to ensure that all the buildings must provide for utilization of solar energy and, besides, the entire Campus must provide for rain water harvesting.
He also laid stress on the most judicious use of the available land, keeping in view the future growth of the varsity, and said that fast growing species of trees should be planted along the entire boundary line for adding to the aesthetics of this Campus, which spreads over 300 kanals of land.
Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof. Zafar Ahmad, Registrar, University of Kashmir and Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Faculty members and senior functionaries of the University were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Mr Vohra has said that systematic hard work and a clear and positive approach and suitable guidance would contribute towards success in the All India Civil Services Examination.
The Governor was interacting with the students who have registered themselves, for undergoing coaching for taking the Civil Services Examination, at the Centre for Career Planning and Counselling at the Kashmir University.
The Governor reiterated that the youth of the Jammu and Kashmir have very high potential if provided the appropriate opportunities and called upon them to work hard so that a sizeable number of them could get selected for the All India Civil Services and other superior openings at the national level.
Referring to the need for setting up a residential coaching centre at the Kashmir University, the Governor said that the Vice Chancellor had already taken up this matter and he will discuss this with the Union Human Resource Development Minister during his forthcoming visit to the State.
Referring to the activities of the Centre for Career Planning and Counselling of the Kashmir University, the Governor suggested to the Vice Chancellor to arrange interaction of the boys and girls undergoing coaching at this Counselling Centre with those who have qualified for the All India Civil Services from the State this year and, besides, arrange lectures on relevant themes by experts, for the benefit of the students.
This was followed by a lively question-answer session during which the Governor shared his experiences with the students and gave some suggestions to them about how to get through in the competitive examinations.
