SRINAGAR, Mar 16: Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, had an extensive meeting with Governor N. N. Vohra, who is Chancellor of the University, at the Raj Bhavan here today.
The Governor, on a two day visit to the Valley, had set apart time to review the academic programmes of the University, particularly in the context of the time and opportunities lost in the past due to varied circumstances.
The Chancellor congratulated Prof. Ahmad for ensuring adherence to the scheduled programme for the conduct of Entrance Tests for admissions to various courses. He was happy to note that about 37,500 students had applied for admissions to 40 programmes being offered by the University, of which about 7400, the largest number, had applied for the M. Ed programme.
The Chancellor was informed that the meetings of the Selection Committees to fill up vacancies in various departments were also taking place as scheduled.
Progress of establishing off-site campuses was also reviewed and it was noted that land for the Kupwara campus was likely to become available shortly.
The Governor urged the Vice Chancellor to devote sharp focus on the quality of teaching being imparted in all institutions affiliated to the university.
