JAMMU, Sept 9: The Panthers Party today accused the Jammu University administration of resorting to gross nepotism and favoritism for accommodating and giving jobs to blue-eyed and touts of politicians on the main campus of the varsity.
Seeking an impartial and high-level probe into the recent appointments made on the campus, the party also demanded immediate cancellation of the interviews conducted by the varsity administration during the last two days when even exams were postponed and teaching work was suspended in view of flash floods.
“We failed to understand the urgency of the University administration in conducting the interviews for various posts at this critical juncture when there was death and devastation all around in the State. The varsity authorities owe an explanation as why they are bent on conducting interviews when even exams have been postponed and class work suspended in view of the prevailing situation following flash floods,” said Pardhuman Singh, senior Panther Party Students’ Union leader while addressing a press conference.
Citing examples, the student leader said that the authorities conducted the interviews for the post of Physiotherapist in the Health Center of the university on the August 18, on the auspicious occasion of Janamashtmi, which was a gazette holiday and the selected candidate was asked for joining on very next morning.
“On Monday (September 8), the varsity conducted interviews for the post of Cultural Officer. The University administration had decided to suspend class work and examinations due to extraordinary situation in the State but it conducted interviews which has raised many questions and doubts on transparency and fairness in selection process,” Singh said.
Similarly, he added, the university conducted the interviews today for the post of Computing Assistant for which more than 70 candidates had applied only 40 turned up due to closure of roads and other difficulties following flash floods.
Pardhuman Singh requested the Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally look into the matter and hold a high level inquiry into all these appointments and interviews.
