Governor visits holy cave camp; reviews yatra arrangements

SRINAGAR, June 27: Governor N N Vohra, accompanied by P K Tripathi, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) today took stock of the arrangements at the holy cave camp for upcoming yatra.
He reviewed the security arrangements being made at the holy cave camp as well as on the routes leading to the Shrine, in the course of discussions held with CEO Shrine Board, Camp Director holy cave camp, Lt Gen Subrata Saha, GOC 15 Corps, Maj Gen Arvind Dutta, GOC, Victor Force and senior officers of CRPF, BSF and J&K Police and B D Mengi, Director holy cave.
The Governor’s review covered the arrangements being made for power supply, drinking water supply, telephone connectivity, supply of essential food items, K.Oil and LPG, medical facilities, provision of firewood, establishment of Joint Control Room, fire fighting equipments, positioning of Mountain Rescue Teams etc.
The Camp Director holy cave camp informed that 216 toilets & 30 baths; 11 SASB huts, 500 tents and 80 shops are being set up at the holy cave. The Governor was informed that power supply, telephones and Automatic Weather Stations of IMD will become functional by June 29.
Vohra directed Surat Singh, Camp Director, and Naresh Kumar, Ravinder Singh, and Sunny Gupta, Additional Camp Directors, to ensure cleanliness and effective sanitation within the Camp area.
He also directed R K Pandita, G M (Works) to expeditiously complete snow clearance work along the steps leading to the holy cave and provide proper drainage of the snow melt. He also called for close co-ordination amongst various agencies involved in the management of the Yatra and directed the Camp Directors to have regular daily meetings with all the security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure immediate resolution of any arising problem.
The Governor directed all the concerned Departments, particularly the Pahalgam Development Authority, to speed up the ongoing restoration works and ensure the completion of the Chandanwari-Pissu Top- Sheshnag-Mahagunus Top- Poshpathri-Panjtarni track latest by June 29 to ensure that all arrangements can be timely put in place.
Mr Vohra while reviewing the positioning of Mountain Rescue Teams and Avalanche Rescue Teams on the track and the Disaster Management measures, emphasized the need for ensuring prompt response in case of any emergent situation.
For this purpose, he asked all the concerned agencies to ensure greater coordination at all levels. For helping the old, infirm and unwell yatris to be able to negotiate difficult stretches, Mountain Rescue Teams, each comprising 10 Police personnel, and dog squads of Army and CRPF will be deployed at identified spots.
