JAMMU, Feb 15: In a letter to M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Urban Develop-ment, Governor N.N. Vohra has thanked him for agreeing to consider his request for inclusion of both Jammu and Srinagar cities in the list of Smart Cities.
The Governor had a detailed discussion with Mr. Naidu during his recent visit to New Delhi regarding the selection of cities under this Mission.
Urging Mr. Naidu to consider both Jammu and Srinagar cities for being brought under SCM, the Governor had emphasized that J&K is the only State which has two capital cities where more than half the urban population of the State resides and, besides, 11-12 million tourists and pilgrims visit these cities every year. It was also pointed out that consequent to the intra-city competition among the potential cities to be proposed for inclusion in SCM, there was a tie between cities of Srinagar and Jammu.
Meanwhile, Governor visited Kakryal to inspect the upcoming Super Speciality Hospital and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing.
He was briefed by Dr. S. P Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Narayana Vaishno Devi Super Speciality Hospital; Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Brig. (Retd) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super-Speciality Hospital about the progress of these upcoming medical institutions.
The Governor inspected the Hospital and all the buildings and facilities of this upcoming multi-specialty institution.
The nine residential accommodation buildings, under construction adjoining the hospital complex,  will provide accommodation for doctors, paramedical staff and nurses, an inn for attendants of patients and a guest house for the visiting doctors.
During inspection of the buildings under construction, the Governor directed the CEO to ensure speedy completion of all upcoming infrastructure and facilities to ensure that these were ready well before the planned date of commissioning in mid April 2016.
