SRINAGAR, May 7: Former minister Abdul Gani Vakil has said that the increasing role of Governor NN Vohra in the affairs of the Government particularly law enforcement in Kashmir valley in the present atmosphere of public anger and resentment warrants resignation of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who has almost surrendered the powers of the popular Government in the Jammu & Kashmir.
Expressing his surprise over the recent meetings of the Governor NN Vohra with the Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the situation in Kashmir and conduct of a massive crackdown in parts of South Kashmir, Vakil said the PDP-BJP Coalition Government has ceased to work on ground and as such ceases the right to stay in power.
Daring Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to quit in protest against the trespassing of the administrative jurisdiction by Governor Vohra, Vakil said that Mehbooba is further hurt and humiliated by BJP top brass including national president Amit Shah by turning down her demand for dialogue. While Mehbooba demands dialogue and reconciliation, the BJP president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi are categorically denying to accept the demand for any dialogue in Kashmir, Vakil said.
While the Central Government has almost imposed an undeclared Governor’s rule in the State, the BJP top brass and the Prime Minister are discrediting an elected Chief Minister by turning down her demands of dialogue and reconciliation. Vakil said for the first time in the history of Jammu & Kashmir, Governor is summoning top officials including the Chief Secretary and Director General Police for taking briefs on law enforcement vis-à-vis current crisis in Kashmir and this is what shows the political bankruptcy of the incumbent Chief Minister.
Vakil called upon the Prime Minister to start dialogue in Kashmir immediately as otherwise, the incumbent Central Government will have to cut a sorry figure to find no takers for any dialogue initiative later when the situation would have reached to a point of no return.
