Govt aims to enroll 46,000 ‘out of school’ children in Kashmir: DSEK

Srinagar, Mar 23: Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Dr. G.N. Itoo, announced today that the government aims to enroll 46,000 out-of-school children, with a special focus on girls’ education.
Dr. Itoo made these remarks while addressing a one-day conference on “NEP-2020: Flexibility in Curriculum and Integration of Vocational Education” in Ganderbal district as the chief guest.
He also said that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is not just a policy but a vision document that will be a game-changer in the education sector.
He emphasized that NEP 2020 will transform the education sector not just across the country but also in J&K and noted that the Government is targeting the enrollment of 180,000 children.
Speaking at the event held at Boys Higher Secondary School, Ganderbal, he highlighted that recent Government initiatives in the budget to establish J&K as an educational hub align with the policy’s framework.
Dr. Itoo stated that under the initiative to make J&K an educational hub, the Government plans to develop 15,000 pre-primary schools (KGs) under the Early Childhood Education program, targeting the enrollment of 180,000 children, bringing a significant transformation to the education sector in the region.
Discussing educational technology and digitization, he announced that under this initiative: 600 ICT labs, 2,000 smart classrooms, and 52 tinkering labs will be established.
“Additionally, under the Universal Education initiative, the Government aims to bring 46,000 out-of-school/ drop outs children into the education system, with special attention given to the girl child,” he said.
Dr. Itoo further said that under NEP 2020, students will be trained in practical skills that will be useful in real-life applications.
Chief Coordinator NEP-2020 at the University of Kashmir, Professor Mushtaq Ahmed Siddiqui, and Coordinator DYD, University of Kashmir, Professor Syed Afshana, also addressed the conference.
