Jammu, Apr 17: The School Education Department has granted a one-time age relaxation for Class 1 admissions in all educational institutions across Jammu Division, excluding winter zones, for the academic session 2025-26.
The move comes in response to multiple representations seeking clarity on age criteria under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
As per the policy, children must be at least three years old for Nursery admission and have completed six years for entry into Class 1.
However, a transitional relaxation will allow children born up to September 30, 2025, to be admitted to Class 1 for the upcoming session.
This exception is specifically for those who enrolled in Nursery in the 2022-23 academic year.
The department further clarified that from the 2026-27 session onwards, no such relaxations will be permitted, and the cut-off date for calculating minimum age for admission into Nursery will be March 31 of the relevant academic year, strictly in line with NEP-2020.
