Govt announces to wind up Overseas Employment Corporation

SRINAGAR: Announcing to wind up Jammu and Kashmir Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC), Minister for Finance Dr Haseeb Drabu today said the corporation has failed to provide job to a single person in the State.

It was in fact ill conceived as work force from different State are coming Jammu and Kashmir for employment. OEC was in fact for states like Kerala and Andhra Pradesh where majority people are going to Gulf countries for employment, Dr Drabu told in the Legislative Council here today.

He said the OEC has failed to provide job to a single person from the State and lakhs of rupees has been spent for office and salaries of the officials of OEC.

However, he said the Government is keen to boost entrepreneurship to address the unemployment problem, besides provide Skill Development Courses under various welfare schemes.

Replying to a question of Rani Gargi Blowria, the Minister informed under S K Employment and Welfare Programme (SKEWPY), 4346 beneficiaries were covered under Seed Capital Fund scheme, 791 beneficiaries under Youth Start Up Loan Scheme, 2491 beneficiaries under Term Loan Scheme of NMDFC and 1558 beneficiaries under Women Entrepreneurship Programme of SKEWPY.

Dr Drabu informed that 2,21,217 youths benefitted under Voluntary Service Allowance since 2014-15 and Rs 11549.13 lakh were disbursed among them. (AGENCIES)
