JAMMU, Nov 8: The Central Government has notified the appointment of fifteen members – including nine Judicial Members and six Technical Members – to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
As per a notification issued in this regard by the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, former judges and lawyers have been appointed as the Judicial Members.
They include Justice (Retd) T Krishna Valli, former judge of Madras High Court; Justice (Retd) Vikas Kumar Srivastav, former judge of Allahabad High Court; Kuldip Kumar Kareer, former District Judge, Punjab and President, District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission; Vishesh Sharma, former District Judge, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh; Ashok Kumar Bhardwaj, Advocate Praveen Gupta, Advocate Mahendra Khandelwal, Bidisha Banerjee, Judicial Member, Central Administrative Tribunal and Sanjiv Jain, District Judge, Delhi.
Prabhat Kumar, Charan Singh, Anu Jagmohan Singh, Ashish Verma, Atul Chaturvedi and Madhu Sinha have been appointed as the Technical Members.
The appointments have been made for a period of five years or till the members attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
At present, there are 16 benches of NCLT all over India. Of late, the vacancies in tribunals across the country was an issue that has been litigated before several courts.
In August 2020, the Supreme Court had pulled up the Central Government over delays in filling up these vacancies. The National Company Law Tribunal and Appellate Tribunal Bar Association had moved the apex court in May last year seeking the filling up of NCLT and NCLAT vacancies without delay.
In September last year, the Court had said that the Centre was “emasculating tribunals by not filling the vacancies”.
