JAMMU, Jan 9: The Administrative Council which met under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor, G C Murmu has accorded sanction to J&K Special Sugar Scheme for AAY families.
Over 2.33 Lakh AAY families in the Union Territory will receive benefit of the J&K Special Sugar Scheme. The families classified as AAY comprise poorest of the poor sections of the society.
Under the scheme, one kg of sugar will be provided per AAY family per month through Point of Sale (PoS) devices, at subsidized rate of Rs. 13.50/Kg w.e.f January, 2020.
For meeting the requirement of sugar under the scheme, the Administrative Council approved procurement of 2800 MT of sugar per annum by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs from the open market through competitive bidding in e-tendering mode.
The Administrative Council also decided that the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme (MMSFES) will be rechristened as J&K Food Entitlement Scheme.
