Srinagar, June 4: Government today banned the sale of Maggi products for at least one month in the State for being unsafe and has sent the samples for testing.
The Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali told in a news conference here today that all the District Magistrates in the State have been asked to impose complete ban on the sale of Maggi products in their jurisdictions.
The Minister said that the Nestle India, the manufacturers of the Maggi products, has been directed to withdraw all the stocks from the markets of the State following reports of presence of non-permissible contents of Lead and MSG in the noodle brand.
Choudhary said that the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department has conveyed these directions to all the concerned through a Government Order issued today.
The Minister said that the ban will remain in force for one month or till the test report of sampling to be conducted by concerned Government departments/agencies is received.
Choudhary said that five samples of Maggi products have been lifted from Srinagar for testing and sent to Central Testing Laboratory Kolkatta.
The Minister said that in Jammu 1, 27, 010 Maggi packets have been seized by the officials of the CA&PD and Legal Metrology Departments. He said samples have been taken from M/S Attar Store, Residency Road Jammu, the main distributor of Maggi products in J&K and sent to Regional Research Laboratory Jammu for testing.
The Controller, Drugs and Food Control Organization (D&FCO), today said that the field functionaries of D&FCO have lifted 41 samples of Maggi Noodles from different districts of the State and the samples have been sent for analytical purposes. Near about 3200 boxes of food product have been seized so far.
The food business operators found selling adulterated Maggi will be strictly dealt with as per the provisions of Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006. The food business operators dealing with Maggi have been directed to adopt food recall procedure as envisaged in the Food Safety & Standards Act 2006.
The public in general are advised not to get panicky and have been advised not to consume Maggi till the analytical reports of the samples lifted are received.
