Govt bans night bus services

JAMMU, July 8: The Government of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has banned the plying of night bus service besides other public transport vehicles.

An order issued by the Transport Commissioner of J&K, Rajinder Singh Tara today said that the it has come to their notice that public transport operators, viz; stage carriages (buses) are operating night services from Jammu to Srinagar, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch and vice versa, without adhering to the time table. Moreover, some Deputy Commissioners, have also pointed out this problem and as such have requested for restricting night services.
“This practice is not only fraught with serious consequences, but would also lead to apprehension of fatalities due to road accidents. It is therefore, impressed upon all the RTOs/ARTOs and other officers having inherent powers within their jurisdiction to restrict night services in respect of passenger service vehicles between Jammu – Srinagar, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri and Poonch and vice versa from 10 PM to 5 AM, except when the same is necessitated due to some emergent circumstances, ” the order said.
