Invites applications for two-year tenure post

Srinagar, Aug 13: With the term of the Principal of SKIMS Medical College and Hospital (MCH), Bemina set to end next month, the Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Department has initiated the process of filling the position.
In this regard, applications have been invited from faculty members of SKIMS, Soura, and SKIMS MCH, Bemina for the two-year tenure post.
Currently holding the position is Dr. Irfan Robbani, who, at the time of his appointment, was serving as a Professor in the Department of Radio-diagnosis & Imaging at SKIMS, Soura.
He was appointed in September 2021 on a two-year tenure basis, following approval from the Chairperson of the Governing Body, SKIMS, Soura.
As his term was nearing its end in September 2023, the H&ME Department granted him a one-year extension in late August, allowing him to continue on a full-time basis beyond September 2023, in the interest of administration.
Detailing the selection procedure for filling the position, the H&ME stated that a Selection Committee will be constituted to appoint the Principal of SKIMS Medical College/Hospital, Bemina.
The committee, it said, will carefully scrutinize and assess the bio-data and other records of the candidates, evaluating their academic qualifications, teaching, research, and administrative experience.
“After assessing the credentials of the candidates based on the aforesaid criteria, the Selection Committee may call candidates it deems necessary for a personal interaction to make further assessments,” the H&ME said.
Upon completing the assessment process, the Selection Committee will prepare a panel of up to three candidates in order of merit, which will be submitted to the Chairman of the Governing Body for final selection.
According to an advertisement notification issued by the H&ME Department, applicants must possess a postgraduate medical qualification and other academic qualifications from a recognized institution.
Additionally, it noted, applicants must have a minimum of ten years of teaching experience as a Professor or Associate Professor (Additional Professor for SKIMS faculty) or Reader in a Medical College/Institute, with at least five of those years as a Professor in a department.
“Preference will be given to Heads of Departments,” the H&ME stated.
