JAMMU, Oct 19: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today called upon the youth to be equally conscious of their duties along with rights for a better world to live in. “Everyone must discharge his duties with utmost sincerity and devotion to create a healthy and prosperous society”, the Minister maintained.
The Minister was addressing a large gathering after inaugurating a Government High School building (GHS) and Health Sub Centre (HSC) under Rashtriya Madmik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) respectively. The GHS building has been constructed at a cost of Rs.40 lakh and Health Sub Centre has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 62.90 lakh by PWD (R&B) agency, it includes OPD, immunization/dispensary section, toilet block and residential quarter.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that in the present era the stress has been laid on the children to secure maximum marks but moral and value based education is an essential component of academic activities for the overall progress of the youth. He said that the need of the hour is to transform the education system with a view to cultivate the basic values of humanism, democracy, socialism and secularism among the individuals. He stressed upon the teaching fraternity to further improve the quality of education.
Listing the steps initiated to strengthen the education network in Akhnoor tehsil, the Minister said over the past 5-6 years the Government has opened number of primary schools in every hamlet to promote the literacy rate, especially among the girls. He said that a large number of schools has been upgraded from middle to high and higher secondary schools to provide education to the students of far-flung areas.
Asking the students to work hard to achieve success, the Minister said that there is no alternative for hard work which pays in the long run. He said that education is the only tool which changes the socio economic profile of an individual and the society and asked the students to devote themselves for achieving the goals.
After the inauguration of Health Centre, Mr. Sham said that Government is committed to provide basic amenities to the people for which various developmental projects have been completed in the area. He said that equitable development of all the regions with special attention to the rural area has been accorded high priority.
Mr. Sham said that this new hospital will cater to the medical needs of the people of the area and reduce referral cases to the Government medical college and other hospitals in Jammu. He said that NRHM is a remarkable project which has helped to extent best health care facilities to the rural areas. He said that the necessary infrastructure of the hospital will be provided.
Later, the Minister also laid foundation stone of Rs. 30 lakh tube well at Chak Kirpal in Akhnoor Constituency.
The Minister said that after the commissioning of the tubewell, a population of 5000 souls of the Chak Kirpalpur and its adjoining areas would be benefitted. He asked the PHE authorities to lay drinking water supply pipes in the uncovered areas and urged the people to use drinking water judiciously because due to global warming the ground water table is decreasing day by day.
