JAMMU, Jan 3: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh has said that the Government is committed to comprehensive development of Ladakh so the people of the desert region get all the modern housing and educational facilities and other related amenities.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a function organized by All Ladakh Students Association of Jammu in connection with the Lossar festival.
Minister of State for Information, Education and Culture, Priya Sethi, senior BJP leader, Yudhvir Sethi, Councilors from LAHDC, Drokpa Thukse Rinpoche and several prominent citizens, intellectuals and academia were present.
While referring to Ladakh as pride of India, Dr Singh said the Government is committed to accelerate the development of the region and a special dispensation under the Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Plan would be provided to the region under different sectors like Tourism, PDD, Housing, Education so that the people of this region also get benefitted.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the funds to the tune of Rs 9000 crore have been sanctioned for the prestigious Zojilla tunnel which would ensure all year connectivity of the region with the rest of the State. This would go a long way in boosting the tourism and economic activities of the Ladakh, Dr Singh added.
While responding to the demands of the Ladakhi students, the Deputy Chief Minister said the provision of teaching more subjects in the satellite campus of Kashmir University at Leh would be taken up with the concerned authorities. He also said the Government would also provide land for construction of hostel for Ladakhi students studying in Jammu.
Priya Sethi while speaking on the occasion said the Government would also be taking several new initiatives in the education sector for the benefit of the Ladakhi students so that they get all the requisite facilities. She said that ever since the present Government took over it has been its endeavor to ensure equitable development of all the three regions with special focus on far-flung areas like Leh and Kargil.
She while responding to the demands of the Ladakhi students said that the steps would soon be undertaken for establishing examination centers for conducting various exams of SSRB, PSC, UPSC in Leh and Kargil. She also said several new reformative and innovative measures would be undertaken for improving the educational deliverance and quality in the region.
