NAMBLA (URI), Apr 13: Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports Taj Mohi-ud-Din today said that the Government has been consolidating and improving basic services to the people in all the areas of the State.
Addressing a well attended public meeting here today, the Minister said that the history of last four years is a witness to the fact that considerable improvement has been made in critical sectors of public importance namely Health, Education, Roads, Water Supply and Agriculture etc in the State. He said a network of roads both major and minor in the State has been established which would not only connect the people of different regions to each other but would also give the economy of the State a boost.
The Minister said that during last 4 years providing drinking water facility to the people was flagged as priority and many big and small water supply schemes were conceived and commissioned. He said large area of agriculture land was brought under irrigation by providing necessary facilities.
Terming transparency hallmark of present Government, Mr. Taj said many legislations and laws like RTI, Public Service Guarantee Act etc were enacted and executed. He said the aim was to make people stakeholders in governance and make Government accountable to them.
The Minister said empowerment of Panchayats was another major step to take governance close to people. He said so far 69 functions of 14 departments have been transferred to the Panchayats. He asked the Sarpanchs and Panchs to utilize these powers for the betterment of the people in their respective areas.
On the development needs of Uri constituency, the Minister said the area has witnessed a developmental turn around during last 10 years. He said a number of roads connecting several habitations of the area were connected to each other besides many flagship programmes like MG NREGA, NRHM, BADP, BRGF etc were taken to the people of these far-flung areas. He said 96 per cent population of Uri gets potable drinking water and efforts are on to bring benefits of other schemes and programmes to its people as well.
