SRINAGAR, June 26: In a significant decision the Government today constituted a broad-based Empanelment Committee for empanelment of new newspapers in the State. The Committee will also be responsible for framing an Advertisement Policy for distribution of Government advertisements among the media.
As per the orders issued here today, the new Committee would be headed by the Principal Secretary to Government Information Department. The members of the panel include Director Information, one representative each from Home and Finance Departments of the rank of Special Secretary and one representative each from MERC Srinagar and IIMC Jammu. Joint Director Information (Headquarters) will be the member secretary of the panel.
Pertinently, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had announced during the budget session of the State Legislature that the existing one-man Empanelment Committee would be replaced by a broad-based panel to ensure more transparency in empanelment of newspapers for entitlement to Government advertisements.
