Govt to construct 500 pre-fab structures for flood victims

JAMMU, Nov 21: The State Government has started construction of 500 pre-fabricated hutments for flood victims in Srinagar, Bandipora and Kulgam districts of the Kashmir Valley in first phase and hand over them to the people, who had lost their homes and hearths in September floods.
The pre-fabricated structures are being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crores and would be ready within a fortnight well before the harsh winter sets-in, official sources said.
They added that the administration would identify the worst hit flood victims, who have lost their everything in the flood and handover the pre-fabricated hutments to them.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Rohit Kansal said that construction of 500 pre-fabricated structures for three districts has been taken up in Phase-I while more hutments would be constructed in the remaining phases. He said work was apace on construction of hutments and they would be completed in the next few days and handed over to the flood victims.
Mr Kansal accompanied by the Chief Engineer of Works Department supervised construction work on pre-fabricated structures and directed the construction authorities to ensure their speedy completion.
