Govt delaying passage of Shrines Bill: KPC

Excelsior Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Feb 5: Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) in its meeting here, today criticized and condemned the State Government for delaying and denying the passage of Shrine and Temples Bill.
The meeting said that Kashmiri Pandits this way are being forced to launch a strong agitation for the passage of said bill in order to promotion and protect these shrines and temples in the Valley.
KPC president, Kundan Kashmiri strongly lambasted the State and Central Governments for their failure in taking concrete steps for safety of historical Hindu shrines and temples in Kashmir Valley which have suffered huge losses from the last 28 year long turmoil.
He said in 2009, the Kashmir Temples and Shrines Bill was introduced in the Assembly and later was  referred to the Select Committee in 2013 headed by then Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Saifullah Mir, who then submitted the Committee’s report in the Assembly, but unfortunately the Congress and the BJP joined hands in the Legislative Assembly and blocked the passage of the said  Bill for reasons best known to them. Now present collation Government of the State again delayed and denied the same .Earlier lot of assurances  were given by the State and Central Governments , but proved totally false as both  failed to take concrete measures in this regard.
KPC has been seeking enactment of the Bill  at the earliest on the lines of the Auqaf Board and the Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.
