JAMMU, Mar 16: A large chunk of Schedule Caste (SC) community has been ignored again by J&K Government, by not giving proper share in the Council of Ministers.
This was expressed by president of All J&K Dalit Chetna Manch (JKDCM), Sham Lal Basson, while addressing media persons here at Press Club.
Addressing the media persons, Basson said, “Out of 25 Ministers only one has been nominated as Cabinet Minister whereas due share has not been given to SC community. He said that the Governor NN Vohra nominated two women MLAs, one of which should have been filled by SC community”.
Basson also expressed that no representation has been given to SC community in the house of elders and hoped that in future the Government will nominate one MLC each from both the parties out of eight seats to be announced by the Government.
He also appealed the Government to nominate maximum members of the community on posts of vice-chairpersons of various corporations or boards, which stand terminated by the present dispensation.
Alleging that all the States except J&K have adopted 73rd and 74th Amendment of 1992, he appealed for the implementation of these amendments in toto.
“There are four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh and one has been reserved for SC but in J&K out of six, not even a single seat has been reserved for the community”, Basson said and appealed for reservation of one seat to SC community like other States.
He also appealed the Government to replace word ‘Chura’ from SRO 294 of 2005 with word ‘Valmikiyan’, like other States.
While speaking on the occasion, Narinder Datt, general secretary of the Manch appealed the SC community to unite under a single umbrella irrespective of their colour, caste, creed or Sabha to fight against injustice and discrimination meted out to them.
