JAMMU, Aug 31:  Failure of the State Government to implement the agreement reached between it and Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS) in letter and spirit during last six years of its rule has come to severe criticism during a function organized by Sangarsh Samiti here today in connection with observance of sixth martyrdom day of land row agitation.
The function was organized by SAYSS led by Pawan Kohli in which Union Minister with PMO having independent charge of Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh was the chief guest while BJP MP from Jammu -Poonch Parliamentary Segment and State president of the Party Jugal Kishore Sharma was the guest of honour.
The function was attended by prominent persons including BJP Legislative Party leader Ashok Khajuria, State president VHP and then convener of SAYSS, Leela Karan Sharma, Mahant Rameshwar Dass of Purani Mandi, Sanatan Dharam Sabha (SDS) president, Jagdish Dogra, Dr Narinder Singh, National president ABVP, Dinehs Khanna and others.
Dr Jitendra Singh, while paying rich tributes to the martyrs said “some times we have to make sacrifices to unite the society and same was done by these martyrs during 2008 land row agitation who laid down their lives for bringing the entire society on one platform”.
He said the 2008 land row agitation has become one of the important Andolans (struggles) of the history and it was rightly said by some speakers that neither they have seen such a big Andolan any where nor they have heard of it so far.
While regretting the failure of Government to implement the agreement reached between then Government led by Governor, N N Vohra and SAYSS led by Leela Karan, he said it was an agreement made by the Government with the people and there was no logic with the present Government to backtrack from its implementation.
He said with change of Government the documents do not change and the new Government is bound to implement the agreements made by the previous one as governments work in continuity.
He said instead of saying that Government was not implementing the agreement, the Samiti has to take a legal recourse to it by consulting some legal luminaries. Moreover the Samiti should prepare a document and submit it to union Government so that it can seek a status report from the State Government on the same, he added.
Jugal Kishore Sharma while paying rich tributes to martyrs of land row agitation of 2008 said it was a historic agitation and peoples support to it was spontaneous as their sentiments were hurt after the Government tried to interfere in their religious affairs.
He stressed same type of unity among the people to get the agreement signed between the Government and SAYSS implemented in letter and spirit. He regretted that no compensation has been paid to the traders of land row agitation nor cases were withdrawn against youth who were implicated in false cases.
Earlier the next kin of the martyrs including Manjit Singh, Kuldeep Verma (Dogra) Sanjeev Singh, Sanjay Padha, Narinder Sharma, Bodh Raj, Deepak Sharma and Ramesh Kumar were felicitated posthumously. The awards were presented to their family members.
Pawan Kohli, convener SAYSS while giving background of the land row agitation said that it was a historical battle to which every individual was associated.
