Govt employee among three arrested with poppy straw

JAMMU, June 27: Police under Operation Sanjeevani arrested three drug peddlers including a Government employee along with 4 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki).
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a police team led by SDPO RS Pura Surinder Choudhary under the supervision of SP Headquarters Jammu RC Kotwal laid a naka at Kotli Shah Doula and stopped a Swift car bearing registration number JK02BD-8835 for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver along with two associates elevated from the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops intercepted them after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 4 kilograms of poppy straw from the possession of three persons traveling in the car and arrested them.
The drug peddlers have been identified as senior assistant in Irrigation Department Canal Road Bhupinder Singh alias Makhnu, son of Raghubir Singh of Palli Morh Bari Brahmana, Krishan Lal alias Vicky, son of Santokhu Ram of Sheikhpur Adlehar Bishnah and Romesh Lal alias Meshi, son of Hans Raj of Motey RS Pura.
A case under FIR Number 137/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at RS Pura police station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment.
