Govt extends tenure of Panchayat Administrators

JAMMU, July 9: Government of Jammu and Kashmir today extended the tenure of Administrators appointed for running the affairs of the Panchayat Halqas under their jurisdiction.

According to a notification in this regard, issued by Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, the tenure has been extended for a further period of three months or till the constitution of Halqa Panchayats, whichever is earlier.
Pertinent to mention that on January 10, 2024, the Government had appointed Block Development Officers (BDOs) as Administrators for running the affairs of the Panchayat Halqas a day after the elected bodies ceased to exist.
The term of 4291 Panchayats and 310 Block Development Councils (BDCs) had ended on January 9, 2024, thus necessitating the appointment of Administrators for running the affairs of Panchayat Halqas.
