JAMMU, May 28: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today claimed that Jammu and Kashmir administration has miserably failed to cope up with health exigencies arising in the wake of COVID-19 crises particularly in Jammu region.
Addressing media persons jointly here today, Rajinder Singh Manhas, state secretary of the party and Varinder Singh spokesperson said that the administration has failed to learn lessons from first wave of COVID-19 to improve its response to the emerging new COVID-19 peak in Jammu.
“The government should have strengthened the public health system on war-footing basis during the lockdown period, but unfortunately its priorities lied somewhere else. It seems the all-round failure of the government in tackling the pandemic. It looks as if the government has run out of options and is reconciled to the pandemic running its course,” they rued.
They further said that mismanagement galore at the Governemnt Medical College & Hospital Jammu where in the patient care has been suffering at large. The Principal GMC failed to provide better medicare facilties despite of the fact that there are so many experienced and seasoned doctors available at the disposal of the government to serve the humanity at the time of this deep crisis.
The senior PDP leaders said that recently the Deputy Commissioner of Jammu had ordered for conducting door –to- door Covid testing but nothing has been done in this regard. “BLOs have been deputed to conduct door -to -door testing but nowhere the testing has been done,” they alleged.
They also criticized the functioning of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for its failure to vaccinate the shopkeepers. The JMC claimed that it will vaccinate all the shopkeepers of Jammu city but there is hue and cry everywhere. Due to mismanagement and chaos and very limited number of vaccination centres, most of the shopkeers of Jammu city has been deprived of Covid vaccination, they said.
The senior PDP leaders raised serious concern over the sufferings being faced by the Rehri Phari, transporters, traders and people working in private sector since the outbreak of Covid pandemic. “The government should come out with a relief package for the Rehri Phari, transporters and traders so that they would get a sigh of relief,” they said.
