Govt fails to complete two vital bridges in Pulwama

Srinagar, July 22: Government has failed to complete the construction of two bridges on the 14 kilometre Awantipora-Pulwama road even after two years when the work was started on their construction.
The two bridges at villages of Koil and Tengpona and are important transport link for the residents of Pulwama district.
Residents in Tengpona village said that the bridge, locally known as Darbal Kadal, was partially damaged in 2009 floods, but the Government did not repair it then. Three years later, floods again struck the area and the bridge was completely washed away, leaving the area with no connectivity with southern areas of the district for months.
Similarly, people in village Koil also lament Government’s failure to complete the bridge (Zadhom bridge), whose construction was started in October 2012.
The Executive Engineer says that the work on the Tengpona Bridge is likely to be completed by 2014. “The construction on Tengpona Bridge has been delayed due to non-availability of funds with the department.
The Executive Engineer said the work on Koil Bridge was delayed as some formalities for tendering were pending.
“We hope it will be completed after two months so that it is ready for the traffic,” he said.
