Speaking to reporters during her visit to south Kashmir’s Anantnag area Iltija said that while free electricity units were promised by the National Conference before the elections, people are craving even for scheduled power supply.
“If they cannot fulfil their promises, they must at least refrain from taking away what little the people already have. Electricity is nowhere to be found, even during Chilla-e-Kalan,” she said, referring to the harsh period of winter in Kashmir.
She also criticized the proposed railway line in south Kashmir, emphasizing that the project must involve proper consultation with the people who will be affected.
“People are facing losses because the land under the proposed railway line is fertile and their only source of income. This project should proceed only after consultations with the affected communities,” she said.
Iltija highlighted the hardships faced by people due to the unavailability of essentials like electricity, stressing that the people of Kashmir are suffering from lack of basic facilities.
“Even after securing a majority, the Government continues to make excuses instead of addressing public issues. If the MLAs cannot work for the people, they should resign from their positions,” she said.
She further alleged that the National Conference had promised to rationalize the reservation system before the elections but is now taking a different stance.
