JAMMU, June 24: Congress has strongly criticized the UT administration for the failure to provide regular power supply during the peak hot period of summer season, as a result people suffer a lot.
In a statement, Narinder Gupta PCC, general secretary (Org) has expressed serious concern over the long scheduled and unscheduled power cuts in the electric supply and scarcity of drinking water in both urban and rural areas of Jammu district. He said that UT administration and Central Government have failed to meet the requirements of power, forcing poor people to cry in the scorching heat. A majority of people can’t afford inverters and as the power goes off, the aged, ailing and children are worst hit in the situation.
He said the water supply is directly related to the supply of power, when there is shortage of power, the water supply automatically gets affected. The people of Jammu, especially in urban areas suffer as there is acute shortage of drinking water. Despite paying of Rs 3000 water tax annually, the people have been compelled to purchase water from the private water tankers.
Gupta strongly demanded to improve the power and water supply in Jammu without any further delay in view of the scorching hot summer days.
