KATHUA, Nov 11: J&K National Conference today asserted that the present Government headed by the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has completely failed to protect the rights of Dalits as well as weaker sections of the society in the J&K UT.
He was speaking at the workers convention of Party’s SC Cell in Nagri area of Kathua district. The convention was organized by Subash Chandra Azad, District president SC Cell NC, Kathua.
Addressing convention, the senior NC leader said that the Dalits and other backward communities had voted overwhelmingly for ruling Government at the Centre in the previous elections but the Saffron Party has failed to protect their interest. He expressed great disappointment against the J&K administration for its negative attitude towards the Dalits and alleged that that the present administration is not showing the least concern to addressing the pressing issues of this section of the society.
Gupta said that the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989 has not been extended to J&K State, where their population is 20 %. He stressed upon the need for stepping up efforts to ensure economic empowerment, besides emancipation of the weaker sections so that they can play their useful role in the society. He alleged that the funds sanctioned for Central Sponsored Schemes in favour of Dalits have not been fully utilized in J&K. The Administration has failed to resolve the burning issues like unemployment, farmers, daily wagers etc .
Vijay Lochan, Provincial president SC Cell said that the poverty rate is increasing day by day in the state. He said that justice has denied to Dalits in the state. The poor and Dalit people have been crunched socially and economically under the BJP regime due to which the future of Dalits and other backward communities are dark in Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior leaders Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Pardeep Bali also spoke on the occasion. Promient among t included Ajeet Kumar Sharma District president Kathua Urban, KK Bakshi District secretary, Basant Ram Block president, Balbir Singh, Ashok Kumar, Devinder Mehta and others.
