Govt fulfilled promise to decentralize powers: Slathia

JAMMU, June 9: Describing adequate empowerment of Panchayats as one of the major initiatives of Coalition Government, Minister for Industries and Commerce, S S Slathia today said that Government has fulfilled its promise of decentralization of powers to grass root level.
Addressing the public meeting at village Swankha, Vijaypur, Mr Slathia said that the Government is working under a well-knit plan to upgrade infrastructure in rural and border areas.
Seeking people’s active support in the development process, the Minister said that Government has envisaged the role of people through panchayat institutions. He reiterated resolve of the Government to fully empower the Panchayati Raj system. He asked the Sarpanchs and Panchs to adopt proactive approach and attend people problems on priority basis.
The Minister directed the concerned functionaries to ensure that the Panachyats are given full supervisory role at halqa level conferred on them with regard to fourteen departments. He said that the Coalition Government is keen to establish a vibrant Panchayati System in the state and all these departments should comply with the orders.
The Minister also said that the Government would launch more special recruitment drive for youth of rural and border areas.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated Bus Stand at Baba Sidhgoria Swankha constructed at a cost of Rs.10 lakh under BADP and a shopping complex at Swankha constructed at a cost of Rs.10 lakh.
At village Kalah Swankha, the Minister inaugurated various lanes and drains constructed under model village scheme at a cost Rs. 6 lakh which was long pending demand of the village.
Among others District Development Commissioner, Mubarak Singh, Assistant Commissioner Development, Executive Engineers, PHE, PWD & PDD and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
