Govt harassing migrants on relief matters: KPs

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 2: Various political parties and social activists of Kashmiri Pandit community have expressed grave anguish and shock over repeated orders being issued by the Relief Commissioner Migrants Jammu one after the other thus deliberately adding to the agony of community living in exile for last over 32 years.
In a hard hitting statement former MLC and general secretary Apni Party, Vijay Bakaya has expressed his concern that the Relief Organisation has asked migrants for certificates of being alive to be attested by Gazzeted officers.
He said this is unnecessarily harassment. Self certification Bakaya said is the accepted norm as it is not possible for the migrants to get attestation from the gazetted officers.
He exhorted the authorities to put in place a simple and user friendly system to determine whether all benefit holders in the migrant quota are genuine.
Various KP leaders in a joint statement said that they are not against streamlining the affairs in the Relief Organization if Government had issued an order in one go.
But issuing the frequent orders had added to mental agony on the whole community. They exhorted that authorities need to put in place a simple and user friendly mechanism to determine whether all the benefit holders in the migrant quota are genuine like self attestation which would be accepted to all.
They also said that it is due to tedious and lengthy M Form system introduced by the Governments decades back that Kashmiri Pandits living in exile are unable to exercise their franchise in exile thus got debarred from voting system which too need to be removed forthwith. The leaders asked Relief Commissioner not to conduct experiments on the Kashmiri Pandit community and desist from issuing such unwarranted repeated circulars to harass the community.
The prominent KP leaders who have expressed anguish and resentment on the issue were M.K. Yogi, Prof. A.N. Sadhu, Vinod Pandita, Sunil Bhat, PDP Migrant Cell, Anil Bhan, T.K.Koul, Ashok Dhar, Comrade Mohan Lal, Tej Krishan Dhar, Anu Ji President of Kashmir Pandit United Coordination Committee JKUT.
Meanwhile KPC, chief Kundan Kashmiri and its vice president, Tej Pandita have also shown their serious concern over the issue and asked the Relief organization to desist from harassing migrants unnecessarily. They said they should evolve a mechanism to check whether all the relief holders in migrant quota are genuine or not instead of harassing and humiliating the migrants unnecessarily.?
